Purpose in Life
August, 2010 Flash Back:
There I was; sitting at the big, old-fashioned desk in my office at the Law Firm where I worked, staring back and forth between the throw-back wall-paper and the back of my name plate which simply read “Attorney Christy Williams”; and asking myself just one question. How in the world did I get here? Is this my Purpose in Life? Am I really living life?
How did I get to the point where the best part of my work day was the last minute countdown game I played with my paralegals? How did I get to the point where I always felt like I was escaping from involuntary confinement at the end of a work day? Only, if I’m being honest and holding myself accountable; it wasn’t involuntary. I signed up for the job. No-one forced me to be there.
I did so because I genuinely love helping people. It is who I am. To my core. And, I was good at what I did. Yet, none of that really mattered. That job was not right for me. It was not the job God had called me for. So, I finally accepted that I would never truly be fulfilled with it. And, accepted that I would have to change my life. I would have to create a new way of living life.
For the first time ever; I had no idea what I was going to do WITH my life. This coming from the girl who knew what she wanted to be at 5 years old, was voted most likely to succeed in high school, didn’t break a sweat in college, and planned my whole wedding at the same time I was completing my last year of law school and studying for the bar. To say this was new, unknown and scary territory is saying it mildly indeed!
